Post Orders
RETAIL POST ORDER REQUIREMENTS    I.    INTRODUCTION    As part of Delhaize America’s effort to provide a safe and secure work environment we have developed these Post Order requirements for our Security Officers to conform to while providing coverage for our stores. We recognize the positive impact a professional, well-trained, and alert Security Officer can have on crime reduction, customer and associate protection, and asset control.    You are responsible for four basic functions:    A.    The safety and well-being of all store associates and customers.    B.    To serve as a visual deterrent against criminal activity.    C.    To assist company management in Security and Safety matters when necessary.    D.    To serve as a positive customer relations representative.    II.    POST LOCATION AND REQUIREMENTS    A.    Upon arrival at the store, immediately call (clock) in on the store telephone, then locate the manager on duty and inform him/her of your presence. [If you are an off-duty police officer and this is your first time working at this store, sign your name, address and social security number.] You will receive a briefing as to any security problems or concerns that have surfaced since your last shift.    B.    After a check-in with store management, conduct an initial tour of the entire store to check all exits and check for potential security problems.    C.    After your initial store tour, proceed to your normal post position at the front of the store. From there, you will walk the front area of the store (in front of cash registers) remaining visible and alert for suspicious and / or criminal activity. Your responsibilities include:    •    Acknowledge customers in a courteous manner as they enter and exit the store.  •    Remain alert for security concerns (i.e. shoplifting, till taps, short change artists, robberies, fights, loitering, etc.)  •    Assist store management in emergency situations such as bomb threats, power outages, disturbances, etc.  •    Do not openly confront a suspected shoplifter. If shoplifting is observed, contact the manager on duty.  •    Do NOT physically detain (handcuff, hold, touch, etc.) a suspected shoplifter unless there is an immediate threat to retail associates, customers or yourself.  •    Do not draw your weapon unless it is a life threatening situation.  •    Do not call the police without authorization from the manager on duty unless the situation is life threatening.  •    Avoid the use of force if at all possible (product is not worth your life or the lives of others).  •    Should a suspect flee, obtain a detailed description of the suspect and their vehicle (including tag number if visible from the front of the store) and report this information to the police.  •    Report all incidents and unusual situations occurring during your shift to your security supervisor. The security supervisor will forward all reports to Loss Prevention Manager Terry Hoal.    D.    If you are scheduled to work until store closing, after all customers have left the store at the close of business, accompany store management around the store to insure it is properly secured and that no one is left inside the store. This search should be performed after the manager has secured the front end of the store and includes the restrooms, backrooms, coolers, etc.    E.    If you are scheduled to work until store closing, escort employees to their vehicles once they have completed their shifts, if requested.    NOTE: Delhaize America does not expect or desire you to pursue those suspected of criminal activity beyond the front area inside of the store. This is a dangerous activity, which risks the physical safety of you, our customers, and associates. Also, chasing or pursuing suspects can lead to substantial civil liability for Delhaize America, your company, and you personally.        III.    RULES OF CONDUCT    The following rules of conduct apply to your post:    A. No use of tobacco products except during authorized breaks and in designated smoking areas.    B.    No food or drink may be consumed or kept at your post. (Excluding breakroom during your break)    C.    No personal cell phones are to be used while on duty; including “texting” or email, etc.    D.    No earphones, “blue tooth” headsets or any similar devices are to be used while on duty.    E.    This is a standing post. Unless on an authorized break or conducting a security walk at the beginning or end of the shift, Security Officers are expected to remain on the front end. While on duty Security Officers are to STAND their post at all times. Do not sit on chairs, benches, check out stations, etc.    F.    At no time will you perform duties such as stocking, bagging, unloading trucks, answering telephones, janitorial functions, clearing fire lanes, etc. If asked to perform these tasks, politely decline to perform such duties and report this to your Supervisor.    G.    At no time are you to discipline any store associate for a violation of company policy or be involved in an investigation of an associate. This is the responsibility of the Loss Prevention Department. Place any violations you observe on an incident report and immediately report to your Security Company Supervisor. Forward the Incident Report to the Security Company.    H.    No socializing/fraternizing with associates other than brief conversation. This includes but is not limited to asking a Delhaize America associate for a “date”, (or related activity lunch, dinner, etc), or other personal information such as telephone numbers, etc.    I.    Do not handle cash or access the store safe.    J.    Do not enter the store office unless under an emergency situation.    K.    Do not handle the store keys.    L.    Do not touch video recording equipment.    M.    Abide by all rules of conduct and standards set by your Company (including professional conduct, appearance, grooming, etc.)    IV.    SITE SPECIFIC POST REQUIREMENTS    Loss Prevention will E-mail specific instructions to the Security Company.    V.    SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS    A.    If the Security Officer sees a crime being committed in the parking lot (robbery, assault, etc.) call 911 and take appropriate, reasonable action to assist the victim.    B.    If a customer requests to be escorted to their vehicle, the Security Officer will advise that he/she is not allowed to leave their post, but they will observe from the front (inside) of the store until the customer is safely in their vehicle.    C.    At no time will the Security Officer conduct customer or associate “bag checks” or request a customer to leave a bag at the front of the store.      FORMS TO BE COMPLETED BY SECURITY OFFICERS    (Copies of these forms are attached to the Post Orders– request blank forms to complete (as needed) from store management.)    1.    Post Orders Acknowledgement Page  •    Read Post Orders for this location and sign and date the acknowledgement form page after you have read and understand all of the pages.      2.
